Hi I almost cried reading the tips and all the comments. It’s almost 23 years now for me to live with SVT. Got detected and worsen when I was pregnant. I am planning to travel to Japan and I am down now knowing their health system are a bit tricky. Plus it’s upsetting when SVT is not covered via travel insurance! I have been to several countries and in flight for at most 18hrs and gladly no episodes. But to know I am not alone and we are really the same in handling it really makes me feel glad and thanks to the writer to let us have this platform. Take care and don’t forget your blocker.

Magnesium has helped my SVT TREMENDOUSLY! I take 2 in the a.m. and 2 in the evening. I barely need my beta blocker which makes me very tired! I spoke to my Cardiologist about it and he says that Mg has been considered the “poor man’s beta blocker “ for years! I use MagSRT by Jigsaw.

Hi Laura. I started using a magnesium supplement called “calm” about a year ago. I only take it once or twice a week but feel it really helps. I’ve had SVT at night while asleep now for many years. Ive also had two ablations, both claiming to have solved the problem. None of the doctors i’ve seen, and i’ve been to the best, including the Mayo Clinic, can explain why my SVT only occurs at night while I sleep. Since you specialize on this very narrow subject matter have you heard of people who have SVT and where it only occurs at night while asleep?

Yes, Look up Heart Yin Deficiency and or Heart Blood Deficiency. I suffered with nighttime waking, palpitations and SVT mid-sleep for years prior to changing my diet and lifestyle. Its extremely common, and one of the main co-symptoms of SVT that many people deal with. Diet is crucial to examine.

  • From Elizabeth on My Heal SVT Naturally Success Story

It feels like Im reading my own bio. Im convinced my overall anxiety, diet and stress levels contribute to my recently diagnosed SVT. I only have had one bad episode that landed me in the hospital but resolved on its own. First cardiologist said beta blocker and ablation. Second one said beta blocker and exercise…that was getting a little closer. Only I really am against taking ANY medication because of all the side effects. I dealt with my anxiety attacks in my twenties by going to therapy, and hadn’t had one in years until I watched my father die from lung cancer last year. Looking forward to learning more and the healing along the journey.

    • From laura on My Heal SVT Naturally Success Story

Dear Elizabeth, Im so sorry about your father. Many times SVT comes up after a stressful emotional times in people’s lives. I never had ablation or went on any type of medication. There is so much you can do with diet and to reduce your body burden and heart energy issues to reduce your risk of episodes. Are you gluten free yet? Have you read my first e-guide? Our stories sound very similar especially regarding our experience with anxiety and doctors! When a parent passes away, and even before, there are many childhood issues that come up for healing, grieving, and release. Im sure this is a very taxing time for you and SVT thrives on depletion. Lots to share and I hope to learn more about you! All the best,

    • From laura on My Heal SVT Naturally Success Story

Hi Katie, Do not worry or beat yourself up about your decision. You can just do your best to take great care of yourself, and still work on all the things that are root causes even though you had ablation. You can probably think back to when you had episodes and try to relate them to diet, or stress, or dehydration etc, so you can still use some of that evidence to make changes to help yourself. You can also do a stool sample or other labs to find out about what your foods sensitivities are. Hopefully you are feeling better, which will motivate you to take the best care of yourself possible and elevate your diet, stress management and self-care. Wishing you all the best, Laura

Hi Thank you so much for your reply! I really didn’t expect it, I wish I had found your blog b4 I had my ablation it really would have deterred me!
Never mind can’t change the past but I am embracing such changes that are really helping ditching the glueten & sugar, much more plant based organic diet proper rest & listening to my body in general really does help! Menopause is the next obstacle & I have always wondered if hormones play a bigger role than any “specialist” care to mention! 1yr on and no episodes just need the “fear” of one to disappear but I’m working on that! Every day is a new day, small steps & all that! Keep up this amazing site thank you!

        • From laura on My Heal SVT Naturally Success Story

Hi Katie! Sounds like you are really embracing your diet and lifestyle!! Good for you. Don’t worry that you had the ablation. As long as you address the deeper issues like your gut integrity and avoiding food sensitivities you are not doing further harm and ARE Addressing some of your root causes. Im not totally against any kind of modern medicine, I just know that when it comes to SVT, the medication and treatments have no consideration for Diet and lifestyle which really play a huge role. I just want to steer people in that direction in addition to traditional options. And, in many many cases, like my own, these changes are enough to completely prevent SVT. Its just insane how sick I was and how much diet and lifestyle, and listening to my heart changed my health and life and…the elimination of my SVT. BUT, its always a work in progress, and I live a lifestyle of constant prevention. Since SVT is my Achilles heel I will always have to live to prevent it, but it keeps me on track, and I respect my body and my limits because of it! Keep in touch! And let me know if you want to write a blog post about your approach. I think it would very interesting for people to hear your story…How you chose ablation and are doing all the diet and lifestyle as well. Many people would love to hear about that route!

    Hi Laura,
I have a question about the cal-mag citrate. Does this help calm the heart? I have PVC’s which I believe is vagus nerve related..and I just recently switched to GF/clean eating. Was wondering if that would help PVC’s also. Thank you.

Magnesium is calming, and can help move the bowels, and is an essential mineral that you need for healthy heart rhythm function. Its also something that many people are deficient in, so I do like to supplement with it. I find the cal mag citrate to be very relaxing and helpful! Its not that expensive if you want to try it. I use Thorne brand.

  • From Fana on Clear Bedroom Clutter for Sleep Better and SVT Prevention

Hey Laura – great read! I did an initial cleansing and de-cluttering of my home a few years ago and it was so freeing! I continue to live with the “mantra” of “less is more”. That alone allows sleep to come more naturally especially when your bedroom is truly de-cluttered and a tip I found so helpful is to rid your bedrooms of as much electronic equipment as possible – especially the TV. Once I did this my sleep was so much better – no more TV in the background – now it’s just the glow of my beautiful salt lamp that helps me to fall and stay asleep each night – and sometimes some nice soft music for 10-15 minutes before I dose off into slumberland! And you are so right about the physical body needing to feel tired and in need of replenishment though sleep! Anyway – thanks for sharing!

  • From Morgan Ho on Sleep + SVT

I just discovered your website! SVT has plagued me for years in very small brief bouts. In the last 2 years it has gotten more bothersome. In fact, I get nightly episodes of SVT. Some of them I am conscious of, and some of them not (I know they are nightly because of my holter monitor results). I have observed that not getting enough sleep and jet lag while traveling is definitely a trigger for a strong enough SVT episode that will wake me up at night. I have not tried not sleeping flat. I am definitely going to give this a try and see if it helps! Thank you for your blog and your tips. They are very helpful!

Thank-you so much for posting this [6 years ago]! I’ve had SVT since 2010 and have all but narrowed it down to GI triggers (including constipation and consumption of Gluten, alcohol, popcorn, etc). Mostly notice the PVC’s leading up to SVT when I haven’t had a good bowel movement in several days. Most of my SVT episodes occur at night. Heart rate gets fast for 15-60 seconds, I get, light-headed, shaky, sweaty, breathless & nauseous and often have a pre-syncope/syncope episode (the scariest part), and then it’s usually over. Thankfully, I’ve only had SVT a few times each year, and it hasn’t increased in frequency (if anything, its decreased).

My first SVT episode happened at the age of 15. I wasn’t diagnosed until I turned 30. I am now 41 and feel so anxiety stricken by the daily sensations of cardiac mis-fires along with the panic stricken episodes of SVT. I’m not sure whether I feel like it’s safe to start taking beta blockers(there are always side effects to medications) and I’m truly, gut wrenching ,deathly scared of undergoing catheter ablation. • From Crystal Farlow on SVT Facebook Group

My 16 year old daughter was diagnosed with SVT this year. They were unable to ablate and now want to try medication. We are finding some of her triggers and we would like to help her naturally, without a trial and error of scary medications. She is struggling to stay awake in school, to get up and even go. We have had meetings with the school and her doctor who feels she should be in school and are hoping the medications will help her. She is in her senior year. I’m afraid she isn’t going to graduate. I don’t want to put her on medication, but I also cannot watch her miss so much school. It is a daily struggle at this point.
I have found the information you have provided to be a great source of information and guidance. I am hoping she will read the content and connect some dots for herself to make the changes she needs to get through this. Thank you.

    • From laura on SVT Facebook Group

Dear Crystal, Thank you for your comment. The absolute first thing I would do is get her off white sugar and gluten. I SWEAR that this is a life changing step. The more resistant if at all she is to this, the more she needs to do it. I can speak at length on this subject as to how and why this is the case and am working diligently on my second e-guide called The SVT Prevention Diet which will explain this is much greater detail. Please try to help her change her diet. Increase protein, almond butter, coconut oil, healthy fats etc. Natural sugars are OK like honey. She needs nutrition dense foods, and to get her gut in better condition so she is absorbing all her essential vitamins and micro nutrients. How is her diet? Does she take any supplements? Does she take probiotics? All the best,

  • From Jill Shelley on Travel Essentials to Avoid SVT

Thank you so much for sharing all this! I knew about several already, but I also learned some things. You also brought up the vagus nerve….one day I saw on some TV program that drinking some vinegar in water will get rid of hiccups because it “interrupts the vagus nerve.” I knew SVT can be related to the vagus nerve, so I thought I would try this same remedy next time my SVT strikes. That was a year or so ago, and I have to say I have had 100% success rate with the vinegar in water. As soon as I my heart takes off I drink down several swallows of the vinegar water (about 1 T in cup of cold water) and about 1 minute later my heart converts to normal! The first several times this happened I thought it was a coincidence but now I am convinced it works. Before knowing about this remedy I’d have SVT for hours at a time. I now keep a glass of this ready to drink in the fridge and by my bed at night. I also slip a glass of it in my purse and take it where ever I go. I can’t tell you how much this has quieted my worries. However, I’ve recently had 2 attacks of A-fib (my Dr says SVT sometimes progresses into that) and the vinegar water does not work with the A-fib, unfortunately. Just thought I’d pass the vinegar trick on to you. I know you have your SVT under good control but you know others who are still struggling. I love your blog and I have learned much from you. Thank you!

I learned an eating /drinking tip from an Ayurvedic practitioner. To aid digestion, do not drink iced or even cold beverages especially with your meals. It constricts the lining of the stomach and slows down absorption of the food and the excretion of digestive fluids. Drink your beverages in between meals…. Ayurveda medicine, is a system of medicine with historical roots in the Indian, it is the traditional system of “medicine” in India and seeks to treat and integrate body, mind, and spirit using a comprehensive holistic approach especially by emphasizing diet, herbs, exercise, meditation, breathing, and physical therapy. Ayurveda is the sister of Yoga. It has been very helpful for me & my SVT.
